Glow Hive

2009 by Patric

Daniel Willig sent me this cool Glow Hive - an Arduino-powered toy. Daniel Willig writes :

This is an Arduino-powered toy lamp I designed for
children who are afraid of the dark. The paper hive houses LEDs that simulate live, monster-repelling pixies.

Thanks Shawn Augustson pointed me to a great Arduino project which is used to introduce kids to the Arduino. This project is a simple 4-legged walking robot using Arduino, two servos and  acrylic sheet as the main parts of the robot.

Paperduino

2009 by Patric

paperduino

Here is an excellent idea to make an Arduino board without PCB.

This is a 100% functional version of the Arduino. We eliminate the PCB and use paper and cardboard as support and the result is.. the PAPERduino :D

This is the the first version of the layout design, next we will try more designs, and another materials. You just need to print the top and the bottom layout, and glue them to any kind of support you want. We hope that you start making your own boards. If you do, please share your photos with us, we would love to see them ;)

I love this idea.  [link] | [via]

Urban Sonar

Urban Sonar is a personal space monitoring system that senses an individual’s experience as they move through the urban environment and records that information for review at a later time. Turning the gaze both outward and inward, negative space surrounding the individual and their heart rate are used to visualize a lived experience through quantitative data.[link] | [via]

Arduino Image Scanner

2009 by Patric

Arduino Image Scanner

The original intent of this project was to make a MIDI device that would scan in low resolution images on paper and play them as music. Turns out that even though it is only using a handful of LDRs (photo resistors) is makes for a pretty good image scanner also.

It uses LDRs to measure the gray-scale of specific point of a image, and triggers midi notes from a selected threshold. When the threshold is reached the velocity will be set by the darkness at that point. the darker point the higher the velocity will be.
